The club was first founded 1898. There was an even earlier club in Congleton although the link if any is not clear. This makes us one of the oldest clubs in Cheshire although we have not been in continuous existence. The club ceased operating in the the early 1960’s and was reformed in 1972.<\/p>\n
We have had some very good riders in the modern club, who have gone on to great things. In the 1980’s one such rider was Barry Lawton who rode in the Tour of Britain “Milk Race”. More recently Mark Lovatt started with us. He went on to win international honours with Great Britain at the world championships in Portugal and also rode in the Tour of Britain. He won Premier Calendar series events, and is well remembered for winning the prestigious Tour of the Peak six times consecutively. Mike Harrison has also won Elite races and ridden in a Great Britain jersey.<\/p>\n
In recent years we have become well known as a long distance time trial club, with Neil Skellern (now with Team Swift) achieving many top 10 placings in the season long British Best Allrounder Competition. Karl Austin won the Mersey Roads 24 hour TT and was part of the clubs 24 hour National Championship winning team on two occasions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
