The headline reads Congleton C.C win Karl Austin Memorial Inter Club 25 mile TT. The annual two leg competition with Macclesfield Wheelers, culminated in a resounding win for Congleton in the second leg on the JC 24 25 mile time trial course. Congleton C.C. had a 6 rider aggregate time of 6 hrs 0 min and 51 sec with Macclesfield Wheelers 6:23:06, giving a margin of 22m:15s on the night to add to the 8m:53s carried from the first leg, which was on on June 3rd.
Our best 6 riders were Ben Norbury 56:55 (PB), Pete Smith 59:07, Rob Dale 59:09 (PB), Wayne Powell 1:01:14, Jamie Willetts 1:2:06 and Pete Tatton 1:02:20. Ben was overall fastest with the next two places taken by George Coglan Janus R.C. 57:39 and Nige Wood wills Wheel 58:07
Best Lady was once again Sue Blake in 1:13:27 from Natalie Abbott (Macclefield Whs)1:13:59 and 25 mile debutante Claire Thompson 1:15:58.
Fastest Congleton Junior was Mark Allen in a PB 1:7:46 from Joe Langford 1:10:20 a PB by 14 minutes which gave a net 35:37 to take top points on handicap this week. Alex Braybrooke (Velocity-WD40) was actual fastest junior in 58:32.
Other notable rides were Steve Sladin 1:5:17, a personal best by over 3 minutes, for second on handicap(net 46:31) with Duncan Poole third 1:8:25 (net 48:20). Edgar Reynolds returned 1:10:22, “fresh” from the National 24 hour championship where he finished on Sunday afternoon with 391 miles (unofficial), despite crashing during the dark hours of Saturday night.
